United Launch Alliance launched 29 Amazon Leo broadband satellites from Cape Canaveral in the final Atlas 5 mission to carry a satellite payload. The deployment raised Amazon Leo's on-orbit total to more than 390 spacecraft, enough for the company to say initial service can begin this year as future launches add coverage and capacity. The flight also closed out the nine Atlas missions Amazon bought in 2021, with future constellation launches expected to shift to Vulcan as that rocket becomes available.

ULA's Atlas 5 lifted off just after midnight Eastern carrying 29 Amazon Leo satellites, which were deployed in two waves after orbit insertion. Amazon said the company now has enough satellites in orbit to begin initial service this year, while still needing additional launches to expand coverage and capacity. The mission also marked the end of Atlas 5 as a satellite launcher for Amazon, with the rest of the constellation expected to transition to other contracted vehicles.

Blue Origin said it will use a new hybrid launch-pad concept to get New Glenn flying again this year after the May explosion that destroyed its transporter-erector. Under the revised plan, the rocket will travel horizontally to the pad, be lifted upright by crane and receive its payload only after it is installed on the pad. The company said the approach uses existing infrastructure and aligns with procedures it had already been developing for future New Glenn pads.

EchoStar subsidiaries tied to DISH satellite television and its abandoned 5G buildout filed for Chapter 11 as part of a prepackaged restructuring.
